Digital Development

I’ve been busy working on some digital designs and trying to figure out how to get all of this going. I haven’t decided if I’m going to try to sell my designs at a digi scrapbook shop yet, but I will get it figured out soon. I wanted to give my new stuff a test run, so I made a couple of layouts with my “Leap of Faith” Kit. I plan to have it be my first release, hence the name. I love silly puns and plays on words, so my leap of faith kit is full of frogs jumping around. =) Here are a couple of the layouts I did so far.

Here’s one of me snuggling Capt. C.

So keep an eye out for more announcements because there is a lot more to come!

Little Boys Can Make You Crazy!

I have spent the last two weeks with 3 boys ages 3 and under. I’m watching my friend’s little guy during the day for a few weeks. So by the end of the day, I’m pretty worn out.

I just got the recent Paper Crafts magazine and I found a quote in it that I think fits my current state of mind.

When my kids become wild and unruly, I use a nice, safe playpen. When they’re finished, I climb out. -Erma Bombeck

So I’ve been using it all wrong!? I thought the playpen was for them, but maybe this way it will work better. Too bad the three year old can climb over the side by himself. If I climbed in he would just follow me. *Sigh* Guess I’ll just have to go back to hiding in the bathroom. =P

Ultimate Geek Love Song

In honor of Valentine’s, I wanted to share one of my favorite videos. I know this has been around for a while, but I still get a kick out of it. No really, I giggle like a goofball every time I see it. My husband doesn’t find it near as funny as I do…

Meet My Inspirations

So as I said before I am the only girl in this house. Well that’s not entirely true, we have some girl cats and dogs, but OK then…I’m the only human girl in this house. My scrapping subjects tend to be the men in my life and therefore most of my inspiration comes from them. Do you want to meet them? Well of course you do! (And even if you didn’t, I running this show. =P)

Hubby

I joke around that I am a geek only by marriage (totaly not true, but whatever). So this is the man who brought out the geek in me, my hubby. By day, he is a realtor and a professional. By night, he’s a game playing, miniature painting, wise cracking goofball. He’s the reason I know what a d20 is (if you don’t, go ask a gamer) and he helped me reawaken my love of video games. He’s one of those people that can make everyone smile, even if they don’t really know what he’s talking about. He’s also an amazing artist and helps me with a lot of my ideas.

Sir Q.

Next on the list is our three-year-old son, Sir Q. I tell you what, this little geekling has already figured out stuff on the computer that even took me awhile to learn. Sometimes he’s too smart for his own good. He likes to watch me play and see which icons I click and what buttons I push and then he tries to copy me. Luckily his double click on the mouse is just a little too slow and he can’t read yet, so he still ends up needing my help but I’m going to have to be careful with this one.

Capt. C

Our newest addition to our geeky little family is Capt. C. He’s two months old and just too stinkin’ cute. His big brother isn’t real sure about him, but hopefully as he gets bigger they can get into trouble together. Right now he’s mainly into eating and sleeping, but with his genes we know its only a matter of time before he joins in with the geeky fun.

So there you have it, my boys. I love that I am blessed to be raising two wonderful boys and have such a great man to be my partner in life. We might not be your “normal” everyday family, but then again who gets to decide what’s normal anyways.

Introductions

I always hated trying to write “about me” stuff, but I figure you might like to know a bit about the person behind the blog. So here it goes…

Hi, I’m Jennifer and I’m craft addict. (Oh wait, this isn’t Craft Addicts Anonymous?!) But really, I love making stuff. I’ve dabbled in all kinds of crafts, but I seem to keep coming back to paper crafts. I love creating keepsakes and gifts. My family and friends are probably getting tired of receiving my handmade gifts, but oh well its what I do. I also love my computer (Ok, Ok, so I’m a geek =P). I’ve been able to combine my craft and computer love by getting into digital scrapbooking and designing.

I studied architecture, engineering and landscape architecture in college before realizing that I really missed being a science geek and changed my major (for the third time, which is why I was in school for almost 6 years and am still trying to go back and finish but I digress…) to horticulture. That way I got to combine the science of botany with the art of gardening. I’ve worked at an aquarium store (where I met my husband), as a horticultural research assistant and at a plant nursery. What I enjoyed most at all three was the design projects. At the aquarium store, I got to design aquarium setups. At college, I designed hydroponic units for a NASA funded experiment (Oh yeah, I was cool) and at the plant nursery I designed store displays and garden plans. Let’s just say I like making stuff and I’m pretty good at it (and if you don’t believe me you can ask my mommy).

I’m now a wife and mother, designing from home doing various jobs. While I truly enjoy creating and designing for others, I also wanted to get back into scrapbooking for myself as well. I had done digital scrapbooking before but I found a renewed interest in it when I was pregnant with my second son. When I only have a small amount of time, digital scrapping is easier to dive into and I don’t have to worry about the three-year-old taking off with my scissors. Since I’m the only girl in the house, I really love seeing supplies for boys and have been know to spend a good deal of time searching the net for new ideas for boy themed layouts.

For someone who hates writing “about me” posts, I seem to have come up with plenty to say. So until next time…
