The Blog Bone is Connected to the Twitter Bone…

The twitter bone is connected to the facebook…well you get the picture. So I spent a larger part of this weekend catching up with the social networking crowd. I don’t really know why, but I’ve never been good at handling peer pressure so I guess I’m just following everyone else. So now you can find me all over the net!

Now I just have to handle the pressure of trying to come up with something witty or funny to say often enough to keep my pages from looking like one of those deserted towns in all those zombie/apocalypse movies.  Can’t you just see the tumbleweeds rolling across your screen? =P

Speaking of zombie/apocalypse movies…my hubby has a zombie plan.  Yup, that’s right a zombie plan.  Now the plan varies depending on what type of zombies we’re facing and I have been informed that (while he hopes its not the case) if I go zombie on him he’ll take me out.  So now every time we drive past a construction site he points at the big machinery, nods and says ”for the zombie plan…”  Ok enough about hubby’s zombie plans.

So I’ve managed to make it so that when I post a update on Twitter, it does the Twitter trickle and ends up on my blog sidebar and as my facebook status. I’ve also made a facebook page just for Scrap Quest.  Everything seems to be working except that I can’t get my picture to show up on my twitter page.  I like technology but sometimes it doesn’t like me back. *Sigh*

My Baby Can Fly, Can Yours?

So Capt. C has decided that he doesn’t need to crawl because apparently he has super powers.  Every time he wants to get to something, instead of trying to crawl like most babies his age do, he lifts his arms and legs into the air and holds them there.  It looks like he thinks he will just take off and fly.  It’s been really funny to watch him.  I keep telling him that most kid’s super powers don’t kick in until puberty, so he should probably go ahead and learn how to crawl for now.

So here is my (almost) flying baby:

Five Years Ago Today…

I became a Mrs.  I sealed the deal and signed on the dotted line.  I married my gamer boyfriend and became a gamer’s wife.  I apparently agreed to be ok with painted army miniatures as part of our decor and to learn a new language with words such as WOOT, EPIC and LEET. Or at least this is what he claims was in the fine print of the marriage license.

I can’t believe how fast the time has gone.  I can’t believe that we now have two little geeklings and I really can’t believe that after all this time (ok this part gets a little mushy =P) I love him more today than I did that day.  I can’t imagine my life without him. (ok mushy stuff over!)

Wedding

Weren’t we cute? We had a fairly normal little wedding with all your typical stuff, but we have plans to renew our vows someday with a ceremony more like us.  All I know is that I want it outside.  I want a dress that looks like it came from Lord of the Rings and Hubby keeps saying something about wanting to carry a sword.  Maybe we’ll do it when we hit 10 years together, only 5 more to go. ;)

So how did we celebrate this milestone?  Well we dropped the kiddos off at Grandma’s and went to see Star Trek!  How’s that for romantic?!  Well for two geeks it was perfect.  Then we came home and have been vegging for the rest of the day.  And for dinner? Pizza! My hubby knows me pretty well and to think it only took 5 years to get him trained! LOL!

Don’t Eat These Cakes

When I was pregnant with Sir Q. none of our friends were having children yet.  I always worried because I didn’t know anyone with kids his age, so I never had anyone to invite over to play with him.  Well here we are three years later and everyone is having kids!  Capt. C. will have no trouble finding playmates.

Because of this influx of babies, there has been a bunch of baby showers this past year.  I had seen these “diaper cakes” on the Internet and decided to try making my own.  My first one was for a friend having a little girl (the only baby girl so far!) I didn’t get a great picture of it but you get the idea. Lots of pink and flowers!

It went over really well so I decided to do one for another friend.  I put this one in a basket and added a hooded towel and washcloths.  The nursery had a rain forest/ jungle theme, so I made sure to add a big stuffed monkey to the basket.

The next one I did was for my sister-in-law.  She had a jungle/safari theme so I found a really cute layette set and stuffed toy to decorate it with.  A few sunflowers and a touch of purple finished it off.

The most recent one I’ve made was actually done as a request from my friend who had received the basket one.  Her sister-in-law was doing a sports themed nursery for their baby boy.  So my friend supplied the diapers and I picked up some onesies, socks and washcloths and put the cake together.

Making these cakes has been fun and by now I have the “baking” down.  They really aren’t very hard to do.  I tried several different ways of rolling the diapers and attaching the items and have a system that works for me.  So next time you need a neat gift to take to a baby shower try making one of these babies and you too can impress your friends. =P  We have two more friends with babies on the way, so maybe I’ll get a chance to whip up a few more.

If Doctor’s Bills Are Cheaper Than Installation DIY!

Over the weekend, we decided to finally tackle a home improvement project we had been planning.  We are putting in some wood laminate flooring and its been a learning curve but not too bad.  As with most DIY projects, its taking longer than planned.

We started Friday night pulling up carpet in the hallway, only to find hard wood floors hiding under the carpet.  So of course we start wondering if it would be easier to just refinish the existing wood floor but once we got to the carpet in the living room we found areas that had been patched.  And lets just say that they weren’t worried about looks when they patched the floor or when they painted the walls.  So we decided to continue with the original plans.  Pulling the carpet up was the easy part, finding all the staples that “happy staple gun guy” put to hold down the padding was a bit more time consuming.  He was really worried that the padding was going to jump up and say “no way am I going to spend the next 10 years under that sea foam carpet!”

In true DIY fashion, several injuries were experienced.  I was stabbed multiple times by rogue carpet tacks and staples. One of the punctures got kinda infected and while inconvenient, I think I will survive.  Poor hubby was not so lucky.  While tapping one of the planks into place, he was watching the connecting end instead of the end he was smacking with a mallet.  Oh and that happened to be the same end that his fingers were holding the tapping block on.  Oh and he bought a really great rubber mallet for this project, bounce resistant and everything.  I think you can probably see where this is going.  So mallet was swung, fingers were smashed and hubby was rolling around the floor saying things that shouldn’t be said in front of a three year old, but I think we will forgive him. =P  The finger turned all sorts of lovely colors and swelled up real good.  We weren’t sure if he might have broken it or not but today it isn’t hurting him too bad and he can move it, so we will cross our fingers that he doesn’t need to go to the doc.

So we started this on Friday and here we are at Tuesday and its…….not done.  We are still 6-7 rows away from finishing the living room which means that my kitchen is blocked with a T.V., couch and shelves.  So we have ate fast food every night for three days, which while not good for our pocket books or hips, has made Sir Q. the happiest kid on the block.  So maybe next year when this project is finally finished I will have some pictures to share.  So next time you are thinking of doing your own home improvement project remember this, if the cost of installation is less than the cost of the x-ray and the project needs to be done by a deadline, you might just want to not DIY!
